Phonak has launched two hearing aids that look identical and differ in exactly one thing: the Audéo EON Sphere carries a second chip that pulls speech out of noise in real time. Here is what that does in everyday life, who actually needs it — and what the devices cost in the US. One detail up front: at Migelino, the Sphere costs no more than the standard EON.

EON or EON Sphere — the one difference

Both devices come from the same family and share almost everything: the same housing, the same colors, the same battery, the same app, the same connectivity. Put them side by side and you cannot tell them apart. The difference sits on the inside.

Audéo EON

One chip: ERA

The ERA chip handles sound processing, the automatic program and streaming. It is efficient, which is what makes the long runtime possible, and it covers ordinary daily life comfortably — conversations at home, at the office, out and about, moderate background noise.

Audéo EON Sphere

Two chips: ERA + HYPERSONIC AI

On top of that, the HYPERSONIC AI chip works in real time on a single job: separating speech from noise. That processing power only kicks in when things get loud — and that is exactly where the audible difference shows up.

If you are rarely in genuinely loud places, you will barely notice the difference. If you hold conversations in restaurants, cafeterias or at events every week, you will hear it immediately.

What Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 does in daily life

Conventional noise reduction lowers the level of the interfering sound. That helps, but it runs into a wall as soon as the interfering sound is itself made of voices — in a packed restaurant you then hear things more quietly, not more clearly.

Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 takes a different route: the sound mix is taken apart and the target voice is rebuilt, no matter which direction it comes from. Phonak reports up to 10 dB better signal-to-noise ratio and up to 44 percent better speech understanding in noise. Voices from the side and from behind are understood up to twice as well — which means the person diagonally across the table, not just the one directly in front of you.

The practical gain is less about volume than about effort. APD 4.0 lowers perceived listening effort by up to 45 percent and end-of-day fatigue by 21 percent, according to Phonak. That is the effect wearers describe most often after the first few weeks.

44 %better speech understanding in loud surroundings
37 %more power-efficient than the previous Sphere generation

All figures are manufacturer data from Phonak and refer to the Audéo EON Sphere. They come from in-house studies and white papers (see sources); independent test labs had not evaluated the EON family as of publication.

The HYPERSONIC chip and the numbers behind it

The real advance in this generation is not speech separation as such — the previous Audéo Sphere Infinio already had it — but what it now costs in power and space. The new HYPERSONIC AI chip runs 37 percent more efficiently. The result is a device that is 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter and still lasts up to 38 hours.

For you that means you no longer have to choose between the best speech separation and a discreet, comfortable device. That trade-off was still noticeable with the first Sphere generation.

AutoSense OS AI 8.0 and WindBlock 2.0

Both devices run the same automatic system. AutoSense OS AI 8.0 analyzes your surroundings up to 700 times per second and adjusts amplification, directionality and noise reduction on the fly. You do not switch programs by hand — the device recognizes the move from a quiet office to a loud street and adapts before you notice.

  • WindBlock 2.0 cuts wind noise by up to 50 dB and improves the signal-to-noise ratio outdoors by up to 30 dB — relevant for cycling, hiking and time by the water.
  • Speech Enhancer lifts soft voices in quiet surroundings. This feature exists in level 90 only, on both the EON and the EON Sphere.
  • APD 4.0 works in every level and is what drives the drop in listening effort.

Connectivity: Bluetooth, Auracast, app

Phonak sticks with its «Made for All» approach: the devices connect directly to iPhone and Android, but also to laptops, tablets and older Bluetooth devices. Calls are hands-free — you never have to pick up the phone.

Auracast is on board for the first time. Wherever an Auracast broadcast is running — a theater, a museum, an airport gate, a gym — the sound goes straight into your hearing aids, with no extra receiver. You join by scanning a QR code in the myPhonak app, at a range of up to 692 feet (211 meters).

The same app controls volume and sound, shows the battery level and connects you to your audiologist. At Migelino that is the basis for remote fine-tuning: we adjust your devices without you having to travel anywhere.

Battery and charging

Both models are rechargeable only — no battery door, no zinc-air cells, no fiddling with tiny batteries. Phonak states up to 38 hours per charge. How long it actually lasts depends on your hearing loss, which features are active and, above all, how much you stream.

  • Charger RIC E: the compact desktop charger for home.
  • ChargerGo RIC EON: with a built-in power bank, good for several charges away from an outlet — for travel and long days.
  • An overnight charge normally covers a full day including calls and music.

Design, colors and upkeep

Both devices share the same RIC housing: light, compact, barely visible behind the ear. They are rated IP68 against dust and moisture — sweat, rain and a splash at the sink are no problem.

At Migelino you can choose from seven colors: Silver Gray, Champagne, Sand Beige, Graphite Gray, Chestnut, Sandalwood and Velvet Black.

New are the EasyGuard domes with a sealed wax guard. They protect the receiver more reliably and cut maintenance by up to 38 percent according to Phonak — in practice: fewer filter changes, fewer repairs to send in. For single-sided deafness, the family also includes the CROS EON R, which pairs with either model.

Performance levels and prices

As usual with Phonak, each model comes in several performance levels. Housing, battery, connectivity and Auracast are identical across all of them — what changes is how finely the sound is processed and how many automatic features are available. The Audéo EON adds an entry level 30, which the EON Sphere does not have.

The notable part for US customers: at every level where both models exist, they cost the same. The Sphere's speech separation does not carry a surcharge here.

Prices at Migelino US, per device, including 6 years of service and adjustments, a 45-day return window and accessories. As of September 2026.
Level Price Positioning Best for
EON Sphere 90 $1,749 Premium with speech separation Loud, complex surroundings every day; highest demands, includes Speech Enhancer
EON 90 $1,749 Premium Many changing situations, highest demands on the automatic system, includes Speech Enhancer
EON Sphere 70 $1,649 Advanced with speech separation Restaurants, meetings and events on a regular basis
EON 70 $1,649 Advanced An active daily routine with regular background noise
EON Sphere 50 $1,549 Entry point for speech separation Anyone who wants Spheric Speech Clarity without paying premium prices
EON 50 $1,549 Mid-range Familiar routines, quiet to moderate background noise
EON 30 $1,290 Basic Quiet surroundings, a manageable circle of conversation partners

Which feature sits in which level is broken down in detail in our guide to the performance levels. For comparison: at traditional hearing clinics, devices of this class are typically priced well above this — largely because the price there also covers storefronts and in-person appointments.

The EON is enough if …

You listen mostly at home, in small groups and in quiet to moderate surroundings.

In practice: one-on-one conversations, television, phone calls, the occasional restaurant. The Sphere's speech separation has little to work with here, so a higher EON level is the better use of the money.

The EON Sphere is worth it if …

You regularly hold conversations where many people are talking at once.

In practice: restaurants, cafeterias, open-plan offices, family gatherings, club events. These are exactly the situations where the second chip does something conventional noise reduction cannot — and at Migelino it costs you nothing extra.

Which model suits whom

The honest rule of thumb for the US price list: from level 50 upward, take the Sphere. It costs the same as the plain EON at every level where both exist, and the second chip either helps you or sits quietly — it never costs you anything. The only reason to pick the plain EON at level 50, 70 or 90 is a specific preference, not the price.

The real decision is therefore a different one: which level. That depends on your daily routine, not on your audiogram. Anyone who lives quietly gets a modern device with the EON 30 at $1,290 — same automatic system, same battery, same Auracast capability as the top model, only with coarser fine-tuning. Anyone in noise every day should move up.

And in every case the fitting is what decides. Even the best chip is no substitute for a clean setup to your audiogram, or for a round of fine-tuning after the first few weeks in real life.

Frequently asked questions

Do the EON and the EON Sphere look different?

No. Housing, size, weight, color range and controls are identical. The difference is purely electronic: the EON Sphere adds the HYPERSONIC AI chip for separating speech from noise.

If the Sphere costs the same, why would I pick the plain EON?

At levels 50, 70 and 90 there is no price reason to. The plain EON matters mainly at level 30, which the Sphere does not offer. Above that, the Sphere gives you the speech separation at no extra cost — if your surroundings never call for it, it simply stays out of the way.

Why is level 30 only available on the EON?

Phonak offers the speech separation from level 50 upward. The entry-level EON 30 covers the fundamentals — the automatic system, streaming, Auracast and the battery are identical to the higher levels; the sound processing is more coarsely graded.

Which levels include the Speech Enhancer?

Level 90 only — on both the Audéo EON and the Audéo EON Sphere. It lifts soft voices in quiet surroundings.

Do the devices work with my Android phone?

Yes. Phonak's «Made for All» approach means direct streaming and hands-free calling work with iPhone, Android devices, laptops and tablets. You do not need an intermediary device.

What does Auracast actually give me?

Wherever an Auracast broadcast is running — a theater, museum, airport gate or gym — the sound goes straight into your hearing aids, with no neck loop and no extra receiver. You join by scanning a QR code in the myPhonak app.

How does fitting work without visiting a store?

Your devices arrive pre-programmed from your hearing test. Our audiologists handle the fine-tuning remotely through the myPhonak app, as often as it takes. That service is included in the price for six years.

What if I cannot get along with the devices?

We believe in our service, and we want our customers to be satisfied. If you're not satisfied, you can return the hearing aid to us within 45 days of receipt.
